May 2019: reopening of the Hvar Theater, the oldest communal theater in Europe dating back to 1612.

The construction of this first public theater in Europe in 1612 represented the symbol of the struggle for equal rights between the people and the nobility, an agreement signed in 1610. It was open to all, regardless of their social status. Originally Renaissance and then neo-Baroque, its current decor dates back to the early 19th century.
The modest size of the stage and the small lodges give this theater a human and intimate dimension much appreciated by the actors.
Its reopening will revive the scene that marked the cultural history of Hvar, with varied programs: opera, plays, klappa songs and many more.
