Fishing license for rivers and lakes


This activity is popular in Croatia who is practice mainly in Slavonia and central Croatia, on lakes or river banks. Fishing clubs or tourist offices will give you information on licensed premises.

General regulations freshwater fishing in Croatia

For fishing in Croatia, you must purchase a license from the Ministry of Agriculture. This gives the right to fish on a specific area. In  croatian territory, there are 120 fishing rights, each corresponding to a defined area.


There are two types of licenses:

  • Fishing license issued by the day
  • Annual license per calendar year (from 1.1 to 31/12)


To purchase an annual license, it is necessary to have passed the exam fishing in his country of origin or to take the exam in Croatia.
This review is not required to purchase a license for the day.

Place of purchase: associations and fishing clubs, tourist offices or branches of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Indicative prices of the license:

  • 1 day: 60 kuna (€ 8) for all species except salmon
    150 kunas (€ 20) for salmonids
    250 kunas (€ 33) to the fishing area of the river Gacka (Otocac)
  • 1 year: 200 kunas (€ 27) for anglers up to 18 years inclusive
    400 kunas (€ 54) for anglers 19 years and older.


General rules of thumb:

  • Fishing can be done from the shore or a boat, the equipment is to be under the constant attention of the fishermen.
  • Fishing for salmon is allowed with artificial baits and to fish with only one instrument.
  • Fishing for species other than salmon is permitted with all kinds of natural and artificial baits and with only two fishing gear.
  • Standard flies in force are those of Central Europe, except the river Gacka why you should consult with local fishermen.
  • On lakes,  fishing with lures are allowed.
  • It is forbidden to sell the fish caught.


In addition to the general rules, each fishery has its own internal regulations (weight limit fishing, night fishing or any other feature) , information will be provided on site.
